If you were a Fallout fan before 2024, there was one thought in your mind from January til April this year: “Please let the Fallout TV show be good!” Well, guess what? It was good. Very good. Walton Goggins even scored himself an Emmy nomination for playing Cooper Howard a.k.a. The Ghoul. So what’s next?

Now fans are eagerly awaiting season two. There are still questions to be answered. How will Norm get out of Vault 31? What’s up with New Vegas? Will the Ghoul continue to steal scenes? And so on. Well, we might get answers sooner than we expected! Fallout season 2 is well on its way.

J.K. Rowling’s hateful campaign against trans people is the inspiration for a new play.

It’s called TERF—the title was considerably toned down; it was originally TERF C**t—and it will play at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival from August 2. It’s already lost one venue thanks to the original title. It was planned to premiere at Saint Stephens Theater, and has now moved to the Assembly Rooms. Playwright Joshua Kaplan has admitted in an interview with Deadline that it was a “misstep” to put the word  “c**t” in there. But TERF, as you may know, stands for Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist, and is not a slur—in fact, including “feminist” in the moniker is giving them a lot of undue credit.

Ncuti Gatwa’s first Doctor Who season was definitely a hit. It had everything a Whovian could hope to see —life, death, heroics, and a strong bond between Doctor and companion. The finale was a bit confusing and silly maybe, but hey, you can’t have everything. So where do we go from here?

Well, there’s one thing I badly want, and that’s a resolution of some of the storylines from Jodie Whittaker’s era. If you were a hater of that era, maybe you wanted those storylines dropped, but I’m not sure if the show can go forward until it’s reconciled at least a little with the Timeless Child—the original, unknown, foundling child form of the Doctor.

Doctor Who’s season 14 finale, “Empire of Death,” was a bit polarizing. Fans came away with multiple questions after it was done, mostly because you actually need a good working knowledge of classic Doctor Who to understand who the villain is and why he’s so important.

The villain of “Empire of Death” is Sutekh, an entity the Doctor first met allll the way back in 1975 in the serial “Pyramids of Mars.” The Doctor was able to stop him, but in “Empire of Death” it turns out that Sutekh had been hidden in the TARDIS all that time, waiting to rise again. (This poses a lot of questions, since there’s frequently been more than one version of the Doctor’s TARDIS in play on the show.)

The fallout from Donald Trump’s near-assassination continues to work its way through the celebrity world. Now, Kyle Gass of Tenacious D is under fire for cracking a joke about the assassination attempt at a concert—and his bandmate Jack Black has reacted strongly. It’s not a good day to be a Tenacious D fan, there’s no denying that.

Gass made his comment at a Tenacious D gig in Sydney, Australia. It was his birthday, and Black suggested he make a wish. Gass quipped “Don’t miss Trump next time”—after the assassination attempt, social media was filled with similar jokes, ill-advised though they might be—and the audience laughed. But then things got serious very quickly. Australian federal senator Ralph Babet wrote an overwrought letter calling for the band to be deported from Australia, and multiple “free speech absolutists” on social media forgot their principles and called for Gass to face consequences.

Loyalty is not a common trait among the families of Westeros. Aemond Targaryen recently barbecued his own brother with a dragon, after all. And yet one creature in House of the Dragon perfectly exemplifies loyalty in its truest form. I speak of course of the Ratcatcher’s Dog.

This adorable and sadly unnamed creature (played by a talented rescue dog named Bobby) first came to our attention in the episode “A Son For a Son.” He was the companion of Cheese the Ratcatcher, one of two men who committed the heinous murder of little Jaehaerys Targaryen, King Aegon’s heir. The dog was, as you can imagine, totally innocent of this crime, as all he did was follow the two assassins through the castle and get kicked for his troubles. (Fans were arguably more appalled by the kick than they were about the child murder.)

Ever since Disney bought the streaming rights for Doctor Who in 2022, fans have been worrying nonstop about exactly how much creative control Disney would have over the series. And that’s a fair thing to worry about in some ways, because Disney is very … Disney.

Plenty would argue that aspects of Star Wars and Marvel were toned down and “theme-park-ified” when Disney bought the franchises. For Doctor Who, the Season 14 opener, “Space Babies” was when the “Disneyfied” complaint really began to pick up steam.

It’s not as straightforward as your average Bluey episode. I was confused by “Space” when I first saw it, too. Why was Mackenzie running away from his friends? What did Calypso mean when she appeared at the slide? Then I sat back and thought, wow … this episode is fantastic at explaining trauma in a way that kids can understand.

One of their booksellers, influencer Tilly Fitzgerald, was fired after she made a negative comment about a “gender critical” author.

Author Christina Dalcher posted a message in support of SEEN Publishing, which is for people “concerned about the impact of gender ideology on our sector and wider society.” Fitzgerald wrote in response, “Ooh I’ll enjoy tearing up your books and popping them in the bin today. Thanks for the heads up.”

Doctor Who season 14 (the marketing is calling it season 1, but I find that confusing, it’s clearly not a reboot) did a lot of things right. It was Ncuti Gatwa’s first season and he absolutely nailed the character of the Doctor. But the big finale … Well, let’s just say it left a lot to be desired.

The penultimate episode, “The Legend of Ruby Sunday,” set things up for a tremendous showdown. A very old enemy of the Doctor’s, Sutekh, had been hiding in plain sight all this time. He’d created a woman, Susan Triad, to lure the Doctor in. She shared the same first name as the Doctor’s granddaughter, and the Doctor thought it might be her.

The last episode of House of the Dragon saw Rhaenys Targaryen fall to her death from dragonback—a comparatively cool death in a series that tends to dispatch people much more mercilessly. The mortally wounded Meleys turned to give one last look at her rider, and then both were gone.

And yet … I felt nothing whatsoever for the Queen Who Never Was. I appreciate Rhaenys’ (Eve Best) place in the story—a voice of reason for Team Black and a fine example of the ways Westeros overlooks strong women—but I don’t like her one little bit, and it’s all because of one scene in season one.

Some of the characters from Bluey have genders that are quite ambiguous. Take Bluey herself, for example. Yep, herself! Many people mistake Bluey for a boy, because she’s the same blue color as her father Bandit, but she’s actually a girl.

The show challenges gender assumptions by doing this. Just because Bluey is, well, blue, it doesn’t mean she’s male. Colors shouldn’t have a gender! And Bluey also enjoys toys and games that should be enjoyed by any child regardless of gender. (All of us who have worked in retail know full well the frustration of seeing a parent refuse a child a toy because it happens to be pink or blue, “for girls” or “for boys”.)
